A Blast from the Past

Post by azemigh »

My mom, Heather and I found ourselves on our own today while the guys went fishing and trying to decide where to go for lunch. Well, we have an authentic, vintage A&W here in town and Heather informed us she had never seen a carhop before so we just had to go have the whole experience, rootbeer float and all. I didn't get a picture of our carhop, but she nearly fell over when we gave her a $2 tip. Guess maybe they don't get many tips.

Haven't seen one of those since leaving Kansas a few years ago. Use to be a fun place for a frosty Rootbeer float.

Nothing tastes as good as a root beer float from A&W. What a rare treat when we were kids.
Great layout!

How cool is that? We loved stopping at them on our road trips to Minnesota and Kansas as kids!
Did you get a Momma Burger or what?!

We still have one in our little town, when our kids were in high school it was the "hangout!".

Boy I can just conjure up that flavor of a root beer float. On our cross-country trips as kids that was always a sure thing for me and my brother. We still have one not far from our home.

Great layout and fun memories.

I have many memories from childhood of going to A&W and getting root beer floats in frosty mugs. Yum yum! We still have an A&W locally, although it's one of those combo ones that's KFC/A&W. They still have the frosty mugs and that fabulous root beer, but no car hops. Sonic has the car hops on roller skates but they don't use the window trays, which I think is half the fun of going to a drive-in diner.

I loved going to A&W! Momma burger, poppa burger and baby burger - yum. We always stopped at the one in Gastonia on our way to the mountains when I was little.

Thanks for the memory!
