Christmas crafts

Post by pugmom »

I was in the mood to make something Christmas-y this week so I looked around Pinterest and found these cute sock snow people. I got a little carried away and couldn't stop making them. The first three will go to my nieces.

Yes - what Debbie said - except he's on a SLED! They're just too cute for words!

They are adorable. Love the penguin. Reminds me of my daughter who collects penguins.

Thank you all so much. They were a lot of fun to make. Pam, I wasn't too sure about that one - it is supposed to be a polar bear. (The penguin is my favorite, too).

I keep looking at all the little details. All their attire is so different. Is it all different weights of socks?

Yes, Marianne. I went to Walmart and picked up a few different colored/patterned pairs of socks (for the sweaters, hats and scarves) along with a bag of women's white crews and child's white and black socks (for the bodies). I also found some baby socks that are perfect for hats, with no cutting needed. I really should have gone to the dollar store, but I didn't feel like driving that far.

Mine are all completely stuffed with rice, but I read some tutorials where you put a rice packet in the bottom for weight and then use fiberfill for the upper body. That would work better if you wanted to do some sculpting, such as ears or arms.

Since Pam mentioned it, I really want to try to make a mouse - hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to give it a try.

In the top photo, the middle snow person, what is that cute little skirt? Did you crochet that?

I wish I knew how to crochet. It is the top of a boot sock. The body/head is the calf part of the sock.
