March 2017 Holiday Card Challenge

Post by mpizzazz »

Use your stencils and masks.

Top Photo:
From top left to bottom right, I used:

Color Bursts through the poinsettia stencil
Alcohol inks through the tree stencil
Gelatos and spray mist on paper
Gelatos on canvas paper

Be warned: Color Bursts and Alcohol Inks are hard to control in stencils. These were metal stencils and did not lay completely flat. Temporary spray adhesive may help but I didn't have any.

My only other Christmas stencil is this Partridge in a Pear Tree
Metal stencil embossed in Cuttlebug using Spellbinders Embossing Pad and other padding to make a tight sandwich. I had no vellum adhesive to fasten the vellum to the card base so it is loose. Sorry, these are very hard to see.

Hope you come up with something fun!

Love your cards Marianne! I have a few CS stencils that could work for this. Great idea.

I made a mess with my color bursts! It was the funniest thing ever. Thank goodness I had enough forethought to contain everything in a box.

Your cards are gorgeous. Will have to see what's in my stash...

Love these cards Marianne.
And this gives me a good excuse to get those Color Bursts out again, haven't played with them in quite awhile!
and it's "Messy Week" in PSL,

Gorgeous samples, Marianne. I know the AI through the tree stencil didn't go as easily as you'd hoped, but the result is totally worth it - you can send me that card next year :D And look at you, using canvas paper!

Okay, I finally realized what wasn't adding up for me. Marianne, in your color burst card the poinsettia appears to be a mask, whereas for the other two poinsettia cards it functions as a stencil. Do you have both a mask and stencil that match? Or did you heat emboss or otherwise do a resist technique on the color burst card?

That was the second print with all the color burst that ran under the stencil, flipping the stencil over and smooshing it on clean paper. I like to do that with stencils, it often looks better than the original intention.

Fun challenge Marianne! I'm hoping to get started on these this week sometime and I think I'm hosting next month so need to think about what I'm doing for that as well.

Card on left was made using Nancy's Tic Tac Toe Challenge. Shaped card, flowers, sequins. I used pan pastels with a stencil.

Card on right was made with stencil, stencil paste, then color bursts and perfect pearls spray.

As I said in the February Holiday thread I got to play the last couple of days. Since I had the Brusho out and was having so much fun, I got out some masks and stencils. First one is one of my old favorites, the Great Outdoors stencil embossed with Winter Wonderland and then Brushoed with red, yellow and green.

Second is a Heidi Swapp mask of holly and berries with the same brusho colors

and Third is another stencil and the reverse of that stencil with some santa cutouts.

I also did a couple of blue cards with the CS WOW holiday stencil from a few years ago. One is the stencil and the other is the reverse.
