Christy's August 2016 Christmas Card Challenge

Post by ChristyB »

So it's my turn to offer up a challenge for Christmas cards. (yes I know it's technically still July but I am looking at my calendar for tomorrow...)

These are my cards. I have 2 to share, the others are drying.

These are fairly simple to make, require only items we have on hand, and go together fast.

You need a 4 x 5.2" base and a bunch of scraps cut to 10 1x1" pieces per card.

For one card I used a preprinted sentiment.
The other I stamped the sentiment and then ran it through the Cuttlebug in a snowflake embossing folder.

Awesome Christy! This will work great with scraps and trying to kill off numerous 6x6 printed pads. Your cards are great examples. Thanks.

I'm glad you posted early. I've been hoping all day, want to use my new dies but I didn't get any Christmas embossing folders! Not sure why but I really love putting the whole thing through the embossing folder. Must do that and some how make it Christmasy!

Marianne
I used a snowflake folder since it was the only one I could find. I also saw a sample on pinterest where they used a simple swiss dot folder. Not necessarily Christmas but added a certain elegance.

Here are my first 3 cards. I had a pile of offcut triangles from the 6" quilt blocks I'm making and used some of those scraps for the left and bottom cards. The top right paper one I put through the embossing folder. Then I added the greeting.
This is going to become addictive. I have little piles of scraps everywhere to put through the 1" square punch.

What a great idea to use fabric scraps! The sentiment is perfect (warmth/quilt)!
I have some wide decorative ribbon that might work (assuming I can find it).

I did a few more but only one is for Christmas.

The layout of the squares reminded me of that old CS technique using sticky paper and embossing powder so I did it. Lay out the squares on the adhesive leaving spaces between them then cut around the outside shape. I added thick gold powder and melted it to form the frame around all the squares.

Another thing I discovered was that if you put ATG tape on the back of a rubon that won't rub on, it will adhere to the paper and you can then remove the top covering film from the rubon. I did it here.

The other card is a twofer challenge for this one and for Farley's big words challenge.

Marianne, I love your TWIST on the challenge. Get it? Twist.

Well, I am just being silly here but I really do like it.

Awesome Marianne! I love your CS version...I guess that was before my time, I don't know that one. And your "Word" version is outstanding. Love the colors and your very clever idea. Don't forget to post it on the August Card Challenge.
