2016 June Card Sketch Challenge - Vellum

Post by paddlegal »

As you can see, I've gotten away from an actual sketch of late and more about exploration of techniques. This month is all about vellum and how many ways to play with it. My three samples show stamping, die cutting and dry embossing. I hope to see your take on what you like to do with vellum or what you've been thinking of trying. Next I want to play with color burst pigments, Copic markers and heat embossing.

Plus there's the age old discussion of how to attach vellum so you don't see unsightly goo showing through like my coffee card. I had it all planned to just use adhesive under the dies and sentiment. But I just blundered on and unfortunately you can see some of the ATG.

The feathers were die cut from CS Blossoms printed vellum. I thought it would make a nice backdrop for the feather stamp in white pigment with gold pigment speckles. Heat setting of course was necessary. The medallion background is dry embossed on a dark green vellum from my odd stash. I love how the embossining creates the white design without having to add any ink for it to show up. The same goes for the embossed coffee bean background.

The skirts for the tutus were die cut with a simple leaf die out of a white vellum printed with gold dragonflies.

So drag out your hoarded vellum and have fun.

Beautiful cards Farley.

Fabulous challenge. I might have some vellum and I think I may have an embossing folder or two.

Gosh, I feel terrible. I was so busy thinking of my own ideas that I neglected to say how much I love all three of your samples. Excellent.

Those are wonderful examples, Farley. I have a few of those old vellum quotes to use up in my journal on the road. I'll be with you in spirit.

The embossing folder technique works on plastic sheets, too... like the plastic from packaging ... I've been cutting all my packaging so I have a stash of flat plastic pieces... and I've run some through with embossing folders and it's a cool look...

This is as close to vellum I could find. It's not as see through as I would have liked since I stained the heck out of my fingers with Ken Oliver's Color Bursts for the background that doesn't show up! I inked it up with distress to show the "bubbles" and by the way Farley this is one of the stamp sets I got from Taylored Expressions......you never should have gave me that link!

Oh my gosh Debbie your card is to die for! Everything you created for it is perfect! I was wondering about Color Burst on vellum if it would even stick. But your background is fabulous. Not apologizing for the link....look what a darling card you made!

Couldn't wait for the glue to dry and of course you can't see the shimmer in the photo.
The card base is Distress Ink with water splatters and the pale pink Color Shine over it. I gold embossed the detail stamp from my Altenew rose set on some lovely
leaf design printed vellum Cheryl Miller gave me. They're layered over some pieces of sheer gold ribbons. Gold Color Shine splatters of course. Maybe it needs gold glitter enamel dots? Since we're being liberal with awarding bonus points, I'll take some for using 13 year old letter stickers.
