mail art

Post by Keitha »

A friend's sister very kindly knit me a cowl after I admired my friend's, and so I decided to send my thanks inside a piece of mail art. This started out as a small cookie box, altered with gesso, gelatos, some stamping and stitching. While I've made a few pieces previously, this is the first one that's actually going in the mail; as soon as I took the photos I addressed it, and will drop it in the post box tomorrow.

This is beautiful.

Did your PO take it as is or did you put it in another envelope?
Here they'd never take it with the stitching hanging as is (which is my favorite part) so I was wondering how they handled it.

Super mail art. I guess you could put it in a clear envelope and they would take it here.

I debated about the stitching although she took it as is - but admitted to me she'd never handled anything like it before. I asked Roben-Marie Smith, who sends a lot of mail art, about the stitching and she said she sends it like that all the time and has never had any problem. Guess I'll find out if it arrives intact or not.

My thready mail art did arrive, although I have no idea what condition it was in as I didn't hear directly from the recipient but from her sister, who didn't share any specific comments. But I was glad to know it got there; I won't shy away from doing it again.
